Ruffles Are Trending

October 10, 2017 · Leave a Comment

One of the hottest trends on the fashion scene currently is undoubtedly ruffles. You’ve probably been seeing it popping up all over the Instagram feeds and fashion blogs. Ruffles have literally taken over the this season and show no signs of stopping. Ruffles have been seen decorating necklines, skirts, blouses and even jackets. So there’s pretty much something for everyone, no matter what style you have.

I like many other girls have really been loving the ruffle trend but I wanted to do it the right way. I wanted to make sure if I was going to wear the trend my ruffles weren’t too overpowering. Nothing is worse than wearing something that overpowers the rest of your body and makes you look lost in the clothing especially being petite and plus size. When I came across the gingham ruffle top from A’GACI , I knew it was the perfect top for me and my body frame. The three-tier ruffles and cinched waist bow was just what I needed. I really loved the ruffle detail on the shirt, because I didn’t need any added accessories or have to do much to complete my look. In my opinion, ruffles give enough vavoom to an outfit where keeping it simple is best. I paired my top with black high waist pants from A’GACI which featured slits at the knees. It’s always funny when I wear knee slits, because well since your girl is short they never hit me where they should lol (but that has never stopped me from still wearing the trend). I think adding the knee slit pants to my ruffle top gave the outfit a casual but fun look. I added my slip-on mules which has also been a huge trend on the fashion scene and was ready to take on whatever came my way.

I think everyone should partake in the ruffle trend because there are so many different ways to style it. You can dress it up for a day at the office, or down for running errands. So next time while out shopping and you come across something with ruffles give it a try. Just remember to find the right ruffle look that suits you, then you’ll be ready to slay one of the hottest fashion trends this season. As always thanks for stopping by and owl talk to you later.

Consignment Shopping Just Got Easy

October 3, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Thred Up
Online shopping isn’t something I was the biggest fan of before. I’m the girl who likes walking in the store and sifting through the racks to get outfit ideas. As of recently all that has changed since coming across ThredUp. Its like from the moment I went on the site I was sucked into searching the category of “Women’s Dresses” and seeing how low the prices are for like-new or even “new with tags” items for me to become a fan. Many of y’all know I’m a huge consignment shopper, so finding a store online that’s sells consignment for such affordable prices was like hitting the jackpot.

ThredUP is the largest online consignment store offering high-quality clothing and accessories for women and kids . ThredUP carries top name brands and designers for up to 90% off retail price. The stock varies from day-to-day. So even if nothing looks cute today, it might look cute tomorrow. The size range starts at 00 and goes all the way up to a plus size 32. There is literally something for every body type and shape to make shopping a breeze. While I was browsing the site, I could really tell they were thinking about the consumer when they decided how to organize the online store. You can search by specific categories, and you can even search just by brand. Some folks aren’t to thrilled of walking into consignment stores due to the huge racks of clothes to sift through, Well there’s none of that stress while shopping on ThredUP.

Seeing as the fashion is always changing, I don’t like to always pay top dollar for something that may go out of season in a few months. With ThredUp I’m able to shop without breaking the bank. While browsing on the site I came across a wonderful blue dress which was formally sold on Eloquii from a few seasons back. I remember wanting to buy it back then, but the price tag just wasn’t in my budget at the time. Thanks to ThredUP I was able to purchase that same dress I wanted, and only payed a fraction of the original price. My dress came delivered in the signature ThredUP box wrapped in tissue paper ready to be styled. Even though the dress had been previously used, I couldn’t tell it had a previous owner at all. I love my dress even more now because I got it for such a steal and it’s still very trendy. Sadly my dress was the only one available but i’m sure y’all can find more just like it Here.

So if your anything like me and love the idea of thrifting, but don’t really want to tackle the rack then I say give ThredUP a try. Who knows maybe you’ll see something you want to add to your closet that you have been holding back on. Only thing I recommend is if you like it buy it! The item you love may not be available next time you log on. Also for all my readers who make a purchase for the first time on ThredUP  be sure to use my code VANABLACK which gives you 50% off your purchase. Until next time thanks for stopping by and Owl see you later!

Curvy Con Recap

September 11, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Hey everyone this past weekend I attended Curvy Con in NY and wanted to give you a little recap of why I loved the two-day event. Life has been a little hectic on my end so this break was exactly what I needed.

This was my first Year attending Curvy Con on behalf of the wonderful people at Society+. Now I know some of you guys are reading like what the heck is a Curvy Con. Curvy Con is a two-day event created by Plus size Bloggers Chastity Garner of Garnerstyle and CeCe Olisa of Cece Olisa. The two-day event brings plus size brands, fashionistas, bloggers and more into one space to chat, shop and embrace being curvy.

On Friday morning I arrived for the first day of Curvy Con. We kick started the day with well-known trainer and Instagram fitness star Massy Arais. Massy lead us in a great early morning workout while dropping  gems of knowledge. After the morning workout, we got to indulge in a fresh fruit juice bar and rest up for the activities the night had in store. Later in the afternoon, I threw on my outfit styled by Society+ and attended the fashion show sponsored by Dia & Co showing off the latest styles to be released . The styles on the runway were absolutely amazing, I can’t wait to buy a few items. What I loved most about the fashion show was the diversity in the models used to represent the brand.

The second day was when the fun really happened. It was a day full of panels and celebrity guest speaking on different topics. One of my favs was the “Girl Boss” panel. For me it’s so inspiring hearing how other women took an idea, and made it into something great. I truly believe everyone should go after goals they want to achive. I loved the fact I had a chance to meet and greet some of my fav designers and store exces all under one roof. After hearing the panels it was time to hit up the shopping mall to mix, mingle network and shop. Many brands had discounts exclusively for attendees and offered items only being sold at the event. I told myself no shopping but Ashley Stewart and Romans had some pretty great deals, I just couldn’t pass up a bargain.

Last but not least they ended the event by giving all those who purchased platinum or teal tickets a cute giant swag bag full of goodies. Hunny let me tell you the amount of goodies given was BOMB.com. My bag was full of stuff such as as jeans, t-shirts, gift cards, portable charge and coupons. Also through out the event there was plenty of raffles and tons of free items. I literally had no room to put all my stuff going back home lol. The night ended with the Curvy Con after party which was full of laughs, memories, and lots of dancing.

I had such a a great weekend attending this event . I literally can’t wait to attend next year’s Curvy Con. If you missed this year make sure to buy tickets for next years event because they SELL OUT FAST. Thanks to Society+ for dressing me and sending me to this awesome event. Hope you all enjoyed and Owl talk to ya soon.

Why It’s Okay To Be Petty

August 15, 2017 · 2 Comments

Petty

Lets face it everyone has a bit of pettiness in them. I know I for one have many petty moments. Now lets get into the real definition of petty. I think i’ll use the Urban dictionary definition[ Petty. An immature over reaction in retaliation of an undesired outcome]. A lot of people shame this behavior, but I honestly see nothing wrong with being petty as long as you’re petty in good manner . I’m okay being petty and I think more people should be instead of trying to deny it.

BEING PETTY FEELS GREAT

For instance folks love saying my name as Savannah all the time. Like I have no issue with the name, but that’s not the birth given name my mama gave me. I’m STAVANA which honestly isn’t that hard to pronounce. So if I correct you the first time and you still continue to say it wrong we may have an issue. To me that just simply means you are careless. One time I had a lady screw my name up so much in a convo at the end I said” Have a great day Barbara” the women looked so shocked knowing that wasn’t her name. Well news flash lady my name isn’t Savannah either. It was in that moment my Pettiness shined bright.

EVERYONE IS PETTY, LETS JUST MAKE THAT CLEAR

Everyone has their moment of pettiness because lets be honest people can suck. Now some folks like to act like they better than most and wont stoop to a petty level. Well sorry hun, if you ever been driving and decided to slow down because the car behind you keeps riding your ass that’s considered PETTY. In my definition any act of doing something with the intent of making someone as pissed as you are is considered? You guessed it, petty! You better embrace that pettiness girl.

SOME FOLKS JUST DESERVE IT

Some people just work my last nerve. I already get annoyed with ‘adulting’ at moments, I don’t need to add you to that list. So if you want to have a Petty war there will only be one winner, obviously ME!

 IT’S EMPOWERING FOR THE MOMENT

People need to think about the wrong they’ve done. I’m not going to make someone feel a way if they’re being an understanding human.  My little gestures make me feel like I have control in a crappy situation. I feel like I just overcame the biggest mountain when I have my little moment of shine. Plus sometimes folks won’t even know The petty level they are on till you stoop to that level.

So the next time someone tries to tell you being petty is wrong, girl you better embrace it in all of it’s glory. There’s no prize for taking the high road. Other people will treat you like crap. You can be the better person, but why should you? Sure, you’ll go to bed knowing you were the bigger person, but what does that get you at the end of the day? Pettiness is harmless and it’s fun to watch someone squirm for a minute. Hope you enjoy this read and you all flourish in being a Petty Betty or Petty Labell.

Owl see ya later!

Stavana.

Mellow In Yellow

August 2, 2017 · 1 Comment

Mellow Yellow

Being in front of the limelight is something I have always loved and hold near and dear to me. My mom sparked my interest early in my childhood. She would enroll me into beauty pageants, modeling schools and different theather programs. I loved being on stage or in front of a camera lense for all the world. As I got older I stuck with the hobby and tried to perfect my craft. I attend multiple workshops, conferences and entered other pageants to become more knowledgeable with what it takes to be successful in the industry.

Mellow Yellow

Well…let me tell ya this industry is not an easy one to maneuver but anything worth wanting is worth working hard for. With much hard work and determination you can most definitely  leave your mark upon it. For example the plus size modeling industry is still pretty new on the scene. Over time it has gotten better and will continue to grow. Being only 5’3 and plus size for sure has its downfalls when it comes to the real modeling world. Agencies and designers prefer plus models to be 5’8 or taller and between the sizes of a size 12-16. So at the end of the day that leaves me wondering where the heck does a petite plus size girl like myself fit in. I always have been one to show up to castings even if the requirements specified what they wanted. I feel like yes.. I may have some odds against me, but I shouldn’t let it hinder me from going for what I want.

Mellow Yellow

I don’t have the perfect body or the prefect shape. I have scars and extra skin due to weight loss; but I still strive to be seen and heard. I feel like more people should strive for what they want no matter what society may say. I may not be 5’6 with long legs and toned arms, but I can walk down a runway and slay just like the best of them. You’ll have days you want to give up and feel discouraged ( trust me those days happen ALOT). So many times I have felt like giving up from being hard on myself. At the end of the day you can’t let it get to you, One simply has to brush it off and keep pushing because a break through will happen.

So if theres something you beentrying to achieve but having a hard time. DONT GIVE UP!!! it’s just simply not your time. Maybe try something different that’s out of the norm for you when tackling goals. I would hope someday to be the face of a fashion campaign or walk a run way for a well known designer, but even if that never happens I can say I tried. What matters most is you gave it your all to achieve that goal and left a imprint on at least one person along the way.

Thanks for stopping by
